Anxiety and depression are on the rise in our society today. More children are entering into the educational system with depressive and anxious symptoms than every before. There tends to be an increase in the demand for counselling people of all ages with some sort of mental health challenge. As an elementary school principal for more than 15 years and an educator for 39 years, I have had the opportunity to work with a number of children, adolescents and families within all socio-economic brackets. Repeatedly, the challenges of anxiety and depression arise in the conversations. What is this all this about?
Current literature suggests the rapid pace of change andante advancement of technology is placing higher demands on people within the workplace, as well as the home environment. Women have more autonomy than ever before, but with it comes with an increase demand of workload from career, to childcare, to household duties. Although the world is gradually becoming less patriarchal, we have ways to go.
